Promised the girl a trip to Rome for her 21st and I asked her if instead of going with me, would she prefer to take a friend instead.  I assumed she'd have a better time with a pal rather than boring old mum.  But no, she wants to have some alone time with just us, so I choked up and started planning.  I really though she would have jumped at the opportunity to take anyone she wanted.  So I've booked for us to go in March.  It wasn't until I clicked the payment button that I realised that I am also going away on 31st March, so that's going to be some busy weeks.

So looking forward to going back to Rome.  I loved being there the last time and I hope to be able to book the Pompeii, Naples and Vesuvius day trip we went on.  I'd love her to experience those places too.  She's very excited about going though.  It really is a dream trip for her.

Rome!

The History! The people!

The FOOD!!!

Italian is my favourite, too. Loved Rome so much.

How wonderful that The Girl would prefer to go with you than her friends. You'll have such a great time, Hag. When my girls turned 16, we went to NYC. I've probably mentioned it before, but it was a great trip and memories that will last forever for each of them (I hope) and for me too.

Allan and I went to Rome, Tuscany, ( Sienna and San Gimignano) Florence, Venice, Capri, Pompeii, back to Rome. So we did not see Naples and a lot of other places, but for two weeks we saw a lot. In Tuscany, we stayed in an old monastery that they'd converted into a beautiful retreat. It was lovely, but we were too busy sight-seeing to spend much time there. Although, we went for a morning walk in the hills and vineyards and it was so pretty.

Is The Girl into history? I guess she has a lot of that from where she is, but still. The history was fascinating to us, as Canada is a young country by comparison. Seeing the ancient ruins was humbling. The Coliseum had graffiti from the gladiators on the walls.

Are you going to The Vatican? Just hanging out on the Spanish Steps . . . having a gelato . . . so nice.

I swooned seeing scenes of Rome in "La Dolce Vita," the classic Fellini film, especially night scenes and scenes of Italy at the beach...made me want to see there SO BAD...you gals are turning me green w/ envy (and on the England thread), but I'm glad for y'all, don't really begrudge it to you, at all... I also think it's great that your daughter wants to see Rome with you, Helen, and not with a friend, not even her fiancé ! I know that makes you feel fantastic ! I know how young peeps are, about their friends...I remember...
