Hi Everyone.  My name is Lorna and I came from Jeff's neighborhood.  Now I live in Phoenix.  I was born and raised in Santa Monica.  In my youth I attended a couple of his at home celebrations (birthday and when he entered the armed forces.  We are the same age.  I had a boyfriend that had known him for a long time driung childhood.  Phillip Reis.  His father had started CBS radio workshop and had a star on Hollywood.  Jeff was always in the light and popular.  Later I was in a group called D.A.W.N. that his father inspired.  Beau was very much a part of it.  It helped me in so many ways with growing up into early adulthood.  Now, Jeff has hit to top of his game at least recognition wise.  He always played the best though.  When I saw and and listened to Crazy Heart it blew me away.  His role as a drunked up singer, well  I knew he would do that justice.  The Dude always put all into his acting.  He did so many children's and family all during the years.   Family was so very important.  And, this family is quite together.  Everyone from his father and the Seahunt role to his mom, with her pleasant ways.  They were always into everything together.  His brother, a sheer delight.  I never met or knew his sister.  Now the years have gone by and he has the most wonderful and beauiful wife, Susan.  Once you get to meet a star and feel like you are lucky enough to see the ordinary stuff, it's almost a blessing.

If Jeff is anywhere near, a big Kudos goes out to him.  His days will be busy for a long time now.  And, Dude  you and the best, along with T-bone.

Adios,
Lorna

I'm a new member to this board, though I've been a frequenter of Jeff Bridges' site for quite some time.  Every year, I organize a charity bowling event in Philadelphia called "The Dude Hates Cancer" named after Mr. Bridges' lead character in The Big Lebowski.  The Dude Hates Cancer raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (I started the event in honor of my parents, who are both fighting blood cancers), and Mr. Bridges has kindly donated a couple of items to the event in the past.

I joined the message board because Mr. Bridges is easily my favorite actor and also, somewhat selfishly, to raise awareness for the event with fellow Jeff Bridges fans.  Look forward to posting here!

Congratulations to Mr. Bridges on his Oscar win on Sunday -- there was a huge group of fans in Philadelphia cheering him on that night!

I thought it was cool that Jeff uses a Wacom tablet for illustrating the web site as he mentioned in the My Favorite Things interview in Men's Journal  http://www.mensjournal.com/favorite-things-jeff-bridges

And, a lot of fun to see all the drawings in the web site! Maybe he should start a who can draw the craziest heart contest for the American Heart Association!

Welcome to the board. I also joined the board after seeing The Big Lebowski (many years after its release).
As you can see there are lots of different folks around here. Haggisbasher is a joking twilight vampire, and actually, I am a Belgian ghost with many lives. According to one of the many FB applications I died on 25 October 2008... So now I am floating online in haunts of ancient peace

Hi, I'm Lois from No. CA.  I, too have benn a long time fan, so I finally decided to join all of you.  Consider me a senior member as I'm older than Jeff, and probably than most of you.  'Nuff said.  I'm widowed with two grown sons; one married (a musician) and the youngest has a fiance.  No grandchildren.   I love movies and traveling, though haven't done a lot of it lately.  I'm also a member of Mensa, but both sons tease me about that saying, "The test must have really been easy when you took it!"  Humor rules!!  No, wait ... Jeff rules!!
I did do that sketch I mentioned, just with a plain pencil on matte greeting card paper. Since I haven't drawn for quite a while and haven't had training, it's pretty mediocre, BUT I'll still share it with you.  I have no shame.   I tried to use it as my avatar and found it looked pretty awful.  Maybe this will be better.  Just know I had fun doing it.
Here's Jeff:

Hi Lois.  Well how awesome does Jeff look? Wow.  You are gifted!  You even got his sparkly eyes and the dimples.  Good hair, Lois, good hair.  Cause, ya know - THAT is important. You even got his hand right.  I hope he gets to see this.

You keep drawing.  Grandchildren will come. (It's actually nice that he's engaged before any babies). Do we like her?

Hi Lois and the other new members,

welcome here on the Jeff Bridges Board.
A have a question: What is "Mensa". I've read this name a few days ago, while working on actor's biographies for an event and I don't know what that means.

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Mensa is a high I.Q. society established back in the mid-forties.  Its members score in the 98th percentile on a standard I.Q. test.   At a neighbor's suggestion in the late 70s, I applied by having my high school send my Standford-Benet results directly to Mensa rather than take a test.  I didn't know what my score was (they didn't tell you way back then) but had heard it was high.  For the Stanford-Benet test your score has to be 132 or higher.  Voila!  I was accepted and have been a member ever since.  I've never been active, though.  I receive the Mensa Bulletin each month and enjoy reading that.  Annual membership is relatively cheap - $59. I've met a few people in my area who also belong.  I think I keep my membership up because I get a kick out of the different reactions from people if they somehow find out I belong.  They're either impressed or think a high I.Q. society is a big joke!  Either way works for me.  Long answer, huh?

While I'm here, I'd like to thank you, Brogan, Kasey and Moondance for your compliments on my sketch of Jeff.  When I inserted it in my post I tried to downsize it and I think I narrowed it too much.  Personally, I think the larger attached version looks a tad better.  I'm really glad I joined and look forward to getting to know all of you better.  Oh, and to Brogan - yes, I like my son's fiance very much!
