OH NO, another mass shooting in the U.S. last night, in L.A., in A Thousand Oaks bar full of college kids, 13 dead so far and many injured, a sheriff's deputy and the gunman are among the dead...can't take this ! Another one so soon after the Pittsburgh atrocity in a temple of worshipers ! Unbearable ! College kids !

It's so tragic. I don't know what to say on this, but didn't want to not reply, either.

I always think, my girls are of that age . . . they go to places like that all the time . . .

So sad.

There are so many of these shootings. It makes me feel that America is a country full of dangers. I would not want to live there. How do people who experience and survive this kind of violence go on with their lives? Such trauma.

I am not sure what to say about it, either. I would love to see more gun control but that doesn't seem to be a possibility. I heard that one of the survivors of this shooting was also a survivor of the Las Vegas shooting. I don't think I'd ever want to go out again! And, like Michele, I worry about my kid. And I hate the fact that we have to worry. I lived in London during the IRA bombings and remember that it wasn't safe but I don't think it felt as unsafe as this does. I love many, many aspects of life here but I'm not sure how much longer I want to deal with it.

I too grew up in London with bombings and riots.  It became a way of life.  Now it's other terror attacks, stabbings and over the water, guns.  We go to Chicago next week for thanksgiving.  I'm beginning to think I will be thankful that we return home unharmed.  That's the way it is now.  I don't think I'll be put off travelling, but I'm certainly rethinking US trips, and the US is a place we visit often.  It's not so appealing just now because the impression given is that the US (Government) thinks it's OK for this to happen therefore do nothing.  It's obvious that keeping a certain Association happy is more important than public safety.  I don't want to get into American politics but geez it's frightening.

I think y'all went to Philly for Thanksgiving last year, Helen? Remember a lot of places were closed, cause of the holiday...Chicago is so huge a great deal will still be open...course Philly's big too, but not like Chicago, I think (?). The South Side is really hopping. I went through there once on a bus. Keep your eyes open and watch your back ! I hate to have to say that ! It's a pity, sorry and shame the U.S. is so full of guns and the government allows it. Oh Hell Chicago is especially bad for shootings...just stay out of slums and ghetto areas, you'd want to be in the best parts anyways and I don't mean to sound racist for saying that.
