The local music school has two guitars left. The teacher sings "Imagine".

That's very touching, Martine. Makes tears well up, knowing what all they've been through. And still endure, of course.

So, journalist Rudy Vranckx collected a number of instruments (more than 800) in Belgium and brought them back to Mosul. Getting the instruments there was difficult, because they had trouble getting through the various check points.

Under IS, the people in Mosul were not allowed to play music. Their music school was destroyed. A new music school was taken into use on the day the instruments arrived.

I think this is a wonderful gesture in a world that seems to have gone crazy. And even though the people in Mosul need a lot more than instruments, perhaps the music can help them heal from the terror they live(d) in.
