Layla Hachichi, an 18-year-old student, died on 10 October in Antwerp as a result of burn wounds on her chest, abdomen and legs. After weeks of denials, Layla's parents have finally admitted to the federal police that they had tried to have the devil exorcised from their daughter. They were immediately arrested. The faith healer, who conducted the exorcism, had already been arrested. According to Layla's mother, Layla suffered from eating disorders, resulting in her becoming extremely thin. An exorcist spent three days with her, allegedly pouring boiling water on her during the final session. Whether or not that was the cause of death has yet to be confirmed by an autopsy. According to obstinate rumours, the parents wanted to cure their daughter of her lesbianism instead.
