Finally getting around to my travel update.  We got home over 2 weeks ago!  Oh well, here goes.

Enjoyed the wee city and it reminded me of Krakow.  But I suppose with the geography and being 'block' countries that's not a surprise.  Enjoyed our walks through the old town and seeing all the sights.  They even have a John Lennon wall for those with an artistic bent, or just wanting to say something.  You should go and leave your mark Chellypoos.  With such a long history there are plenty of things to see and do and the buildings are elaborate and well kept.  Typical medieval and a lot of it.  The weather was very cold.  Icy cold.  But the sky was blue almost constantly so it was odd being wrapped up but still needing sun glasses.  I needed to buy myself a new pair of boots.  Normally I wear a pair and carry a second pair of footwear.  This time I just took the ones I was wearing.  They were fairly new and I suffered badly from pinched toes so had to treat myself to a nice new pair to relieve the agony.  Oh well what's a girl to do hehehe.  Unfortunately, feet were so well trodden with all the walking even the new boots started to pinch and my heels were well and truly blistered.  Compede to the rescue.  The food was different for sure.  Pig trotters seem to be the favourite.  We found ourselves not going traditional, which we normally like to do, and settled for one of the many other options (Italian, Chinese, Western European etc).  Breakfast in the hotel was odd also.  Along with the normal continental options there was also vegetables like broccoli and roast potatoes, salad and cheeses.  OK, cheese not unusual but French Brie and Camembert is not something I'd seen on the breakfast table before, not even when we've been to France.  But enjoyed the breads and meats with lovely coffee.  There are a lot of churches and religious sites in Prague, but the Czech Republic/Prague is 80% atheist and agnostic.  Might have something to do with The Czech Republic having the highest beer consumption in the world, and likely having the most breweries too.  Maybe too drunk to get up for service ha!

All in all it was a nice experience and perfect for a short break.  The people are very friendly and helpful but don't cross the road when it's not your turn.  They WILL run you over.  Wenceslas Square is not actually square and has lots of great shops but no sign of a tree anywhere lol  The Good King does sit at the far end astride his horse with his banner though and guards it.  The City Sightseeing bus is one of the best services we've used, and we've used a hop on/off services nearly everywhere we've been.  If the bus is due at 10o'clock the bus will be there at 10o'clock.  The local treat of chimney cake with Nutella and ice-cream is not good for weight loss so thank goodness I was on holiday, when rules are always broken.  That goes for the  flame grilled skewered chicken served in a huge baguette too.  I wont mention the cheesecakes and other bad stuff I gorged on.  Did someone actually serve me the gigantic burger and fries one day!  My scales were certainly asking me what on earth I'd been up to.  Oh I do like my holidays lol

Poor feet and great pictures! Thanks for sharing your travel adventures.

Are those pinguins standing in line for a beer?

Ah Martine, they might have started out being the beer.

3) The Penguins at Kampa Park by the Cracking Art Group

This is one of my absolute favourite installations in Prague but up until very recently I was unaware of its symbolism. The Cracking Art Group is a group of 6 international artists who have made it their mission to send a message about the dangers of climate change and the need for society to take positive action to protect our environment. The 34 adorable penguins that stand in an orderly line along the bank of the river Vltava near to Kampa Park are all made of recycled plastic bottles. They stand as example of what can be produced by recycling our waste.  You can get a good view of the penguins from Kampa Park. Whilst exploring Kampa Park, you also cannot fail to notice the giant, faceless babies. These are the work of probably the Czech Republic’s most notorious sculptor, David Cerny. To find out more about the babies and other sculptures by David Cerny which can be found in Prague, check out our David Cerny Tour.
