I penned this scathing "Independence Day" rock song right after hearing about another U.S. mass shooting, in the Annapolis, Md. newsroom. I've been there, it's such a cool town

ANOTHER GREAT AMERICAN DEATH ORGY

Oh goody, oh Glory
well, well, well
what do you know
yet another "Great" American Death Orgy
and yet, "There's a special place in Hell"
for the likes of Justin Trudeau--
"Kill, kill, kill, it gives you such a thrill
they're sick, and always had the will
we give them the ability to kill"
it's great to be an American, isn't it just,
each can have their very own
machine gun rapid fire assault rifle
and a big surplus,
more being manufactored all the time !
it's a wonder we've not all been shot down
in our golden years of childhood, teenhood,
in our prime
at the zenith of physical health
suddenly taken out of oneself
out of the material world
and physical shell
in a sudden burst of loud, bloody violence
tht looks and feels and sounds like a Hell--
children shot to pieces in their schools,
money valued above their lives--
do you think we don't know that?
do you think we are fools?
too late to put the genie back in the
bottle, you say,
with millions of weapons out there
and thousands more being made every day
so gun lovers can really thrive

So you need not worry
that your All American gun fun will ever
be taken away,
but must worry about staying alive
why is it that other lands
can exist lacking guns for all
in everyone's hands?
we sure can't have that here.
you must rush out and easily buy
your own guns, because you
live in fear
because there are so many guns !
"Just gimme some truth"
well, here it is
compared to those other lands
we are uncivilized, too wild,
and uncouth
our government allows all those guns
since the N.R.A. pays and pays
big bucks to the lawmakers
to let them stay
what does it matter that the
lives of our children are violently snatched away?
Let's hear it for the "red, white, and blue"
"red" too often for rivers of blood that flow
"white" too often for white privilege,
"blue" for "blue blooded" billionaires
hogging all the wealth and not wanting
to help, share and give,
but instead wanting more, more, more
and lest we forget the Dr. Strangeloves
avid to send our boys off to lucritive wars
while they prosper and toast each other
gleefully and get to live
so have a great 4th of July
and try to forget all those
victims who suffer and die
this is my Independence Day
protest song outraged,
agonized outcry

I also felt furious about the children torn away from their parents and some even placed in cages

So well written, Pinkie. I felt a little nauseous celebrating yesterday. I feel embarrassed for our country.

Thanks, Nicky and Harry, it's not exactly a Bob Dylan quality protest song, LOL, I wish.
I wonder if the following "ballad" holds much merit, lyric-wise. It was inspired by who seems to be a "muse" of mine, Ronan Farrow (I've penned four for him so far, the first two also folkie and the first extolling his concern for "the under dog" and the second exhorting him not to just "tweet" but to write much longer things and show us his stuff, and then he went on to win the Pulitzer Prize and pen best selling tomes (now has a contract for another) and be a staff writer at the prestigious New Yorker as well as being a t.v. journalist, and he's going to produce his own HBO specials !)and he had his own telly show right out of the gate, it didn't last but those MSNBC ones often don't, and after winning the Pulitzer I penned the following. (btw I knew I was gonna dig the heck out of him the first time I ever read something about him, heard about him, and that was before I knew what he looks like):

"The Ballad of Ronan Farrow"

He's covered in glory,
presented with bouquets by me
crowning successes so sweet
that, lucky for us, he shall
be inspired to still greater feats
and it won't be just clever "tweets"
"His eye is on the Farrow"
a lovely laddie eager to learn, grow, ponder and explore,
both blessed and hardworking
who wants us want more, more, more
of him
he's always well dressed,
perfectly groomed, personable and trim
a shining present and future
belongs to such as he that will
not be shared just by AI and robots,
the brightness not illuminated by Nukes,
climate change not all that makes it hot
and lovers not replaced just by hate
he was an intellectual winner right out of the gate

brave Ronan and his ilk
give us great hope,
we're drowning, and they
throw us a rope
the glowing bright-eyed children
must not be denied,
they must be granted much of their desires
this is their time,
they're on fire
the strong avid sparkling youths
insist on the facts, on the truth
and raise us all higher,
they vehemently reject all the lies
and make every stanza rhyme,
each piece of the puzzle fit
they will persevere,
they will never, ever quit
but will always RESIST,
until these darkened days
turn hopeful and sun-kissed
Ronan, you and yours please lead the charge
to save the country, save the world
we are too often full of fear

he's covered in glory,
presented with bouquets by me
his hard won successes
are so sweet

it's either a folk, folk rock or blue grass song
