You know how bigwigs can get ousted from Hollywood now for just saying or tweeting a few words, maybe Andy Garcia should, not that he's a big star--he has very limited range as an actor and looks deadpan in his roles, but anyway he remarked about "The Book Club" in which he co-stars with Jane Fonda, Candace Bergan, et.al., that it's a story of "Old Broads and the He" a play on words of Hemingway's novel "The Old Man and the Sea." Aggravated me, it's pretty cool that Jane Fonda and Candace Bergen are still giving audiences a lot of pleasure, at their age. What do you guys think. Did I overreact to Garcia's quip?

Oh well, act royal, ignore the whole thing; have the broads responded? Perhaps he wanted to be funny. Are you going to watch the movie?

Do you tweet a lot? I have an account, but fail to make use of it. I hardly pay attention to what celebs dump online. My own activity on the innernut is already more than I can live with, LOL.

I have just made an attempt to become a member of a book club. Hopefully, they do not have 50 shades on their reading list....

Garcia was speaking in an Entertainment Weekly magazine article, Martine. I wish he had tweeted that as maybe he'd have gotten immediate feedback castigating him. This movie has garnered some good reviews. I don't fancy the "50 Shades of Grey" aspect, much, but I'll see what they did with it, if I get to see this. There are so many old people in my area, seems like this will come to the (one and only) movie theater complex, and it'll be something to see other than the super hero stuff.

Seems like we live in similar areas. The coast attracts many old people, and we only have one movie complex in town.

My own attempts to take part in the activities of a book/reading club might serve as the tiny seeds for a blockbuster movie!

Years ago I decided to join a reading club in Kortrijk. On my way to the first gathering I had a car accident. The exit of the highway was wet and winding, I lost control over the steering wheel and landed in some trees and bushes. Passers-by stopped and helped me, an ambulance came to my rescue. Nothing was wrong with me, but one of the ambulance guys took an awful lot of time to find out if I was OK. I remember he had striking blue eyes, a friendly good looking young man!!! I must say I was extremely lucky that night to come out of that accident totally unharmed.

Now, a couple of days ago I saw a message on my FB timeline about a reading club in town. The club operates in De Grote Post, a former post office building which serves as a cultural center these days. I immediately saw my opportunities and contacted them literary folks. Turns out they only admit volunteers working at De Grote Post in their circle. Moreover, there are no activities during Summer. That means I would have to work free of charge to be allowed to read and that I would have to wait until September to be "employed" and accepted.

Is not that funny? Why must there be such obstacles on my road to joint reading pleasure?

With some extra spice, sex and fantasy my story could serve as the basis for a movie, LOL. The nice handsome ambulance guy with the striking blue eyes would have to be......

Pinkie I don't think the comments are offensive at all.  It is a fact they are old.  Jane is 80 and makes not secret of that fact.  I admire all those broads and I'm happy to see them still working in Hollywood at their age.  This would not have happened 20 years ago.

Martine - I will be a book club member with you.  You pick a book and I'll read it too.  Anyone else out there want in to this unnamed book club? Pinkie?
We do need to pick a name.
Perhaps we should pick a book a decide of we think Jeff should make a movie out of it.
It can have sex and nudity but not like 50 shades of crap.  I watched part of that movie on TV and then changed the channel.
Anybody have any ideas to add?
